AirPods Not Connecting to iPhone? Here is How to Fix it
AirPods is a global bestseller. We can find them everywhere in people’s ears – airports, eateries, Starbucks, cars, sidewalks, subways, dominoes and more. They are the best-selling wireless earphones since launch. The reason for this is that AirPods are small, portable, lightweight, and have good sound quality. Also, for most people, they are comfortable. The charging and pairing process is very easy, smooth and one-of-a-kind. However, every now and then, you may encounter some minor AirPods connection issues with your iPhone.
Most AirPods are able to fix connection problems very easily. Hardly takes a minute. Apple has also recently launched a new Pro version called AirPods Pro. The solutions below work for every AirPods, no matter what generation or type of problem you are facing. So here are simple ways to fix the issue of not connecting AirPods, AirPods 2, or AirPods Pro to your iPhone.
How To Fix AirPods That Will Not Connect To iPhone
Before reading, please make sure that your AirPods and charging case have enough batteries.
Solution # 1. Make Sure Bluetooth is on
The first solution is easy and straightforward. If you find that your AirPods 1st Gen, AirPods 2nd Gen or newer AirPods Pro are not connecting to your iPhone, just take a look at your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings.
Go to Settings ⟶ Bluetooth and just make sure to on it
is . (Or open the control center and make sure the Bluetooth logo is colored blue.)
Solution # 2. Fix fixing problem
The AirPods don’t have a physical or software button to turn them off. They nest inside the case and sleep. Many times if you are experiencing a connection problem between your iPhone and AirPods, simply place both pieces of AirPods inside the charging case and close the lid. Now, wait for 15 seconds and lift the case lid and reconnect. This may fix the problem you are facing.
Solution # 3. Turn off Bluetooth completely on your iPhone
If The above two solutions did not work for you, Head over to setting of the iPhone to ⟶ Bluetooth and tap on the Bluetooth toggle to turn it off completely. (Do not use the control center.)
After a few seconds, turn on Bluetooth and try pairing your AirPods again. (Open AirPods charging case lid. You’ll see your AirPods under MY DEVICES. Tap on the name AirPods.)
Solution # 4. Restart Your iPhone
As we repeatedly say on this website, restarting your device (any device from any manufacturer) fixes many minor issues. We will do the same here and see if this old trick works.
But before doing so, go to the iPhone settings and turn off your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth completely. Now, turn off the phone, and after 50 seconds, turn it back on. Now switch to Bluetooth, open the case lid of AirPods, and connect AirPods. it will work.
Solution # 5. Use The Setup Button To Connect
Did any solutions bring any luck? Well, now we will measure at some level.
Step 1. Make sure the iPhone has Bluetooth on. Put both AirPods in the case and close the lid.
Step 2. Now bring the AirPods near to your iPhone. Open the lid. It will be called ‘Connect‘. Now press and hold the setup button, which is behind the case. After a few seconds, you will see a nice animation associated with AirPods. Do not release the set-up button yet. Once you see the battery level of the AirPods and Case, release the button you held.
step 3. Tap on Done.
Solution # 6. You Must Have The Latest Version Of iOS On Your iPhone
Software updates are not only add new features, but also to remove, fix, or polish existing bugs and features. Being on the latest version ensures that you are getting the best Apple currently has to offer. For this:
Launch Settings on your iPhone ⟶ General. Tap on software update. If you see a pending update. Tap on download and install.
Solution # 7. Make Sure You Have The Latest AirPods Firmware
Okay, the title above is exactly what I wrote. I used the words ‘make sure’ and used ‘update my AirPods to the latest firmware’ because you can’t. Apple does this automatically in the background, and you don’t get any pop-ups or messages or notifications saying, ‘Hey, your AirPods are now running the latest version.’ The current firmware is 6.8.8.
Solution # 8. Reset your AirPods
If none of the above seven solutions work for you, then there is a high probability that you need to reset your AirPods and make them internally new. Resetting will remove all tap / touch customizations you have made. After resetting it will be as if you are installing these AirPods for the first time.
On your Mac: Click the Bluetooth icon on the status bar ⟶ preferences ⟶ Open Bluetooth Preferences Air Right-click on your AirPods name Disconnect name. Now hold down the setup button on your AirPods case and pair it again.
