  • Zomato was the first to feature, Paytm followed suit.

It has been more than a month since the official lockdown was announced in India and people would like to get out by loosening the rules. Paytm and Zomato seem to need people to get out and enjoy their favorite food after the inclusion of the coronovirus epidemic. This is why they have introduced the concept of “contactless food”.

Contactless food, as the name suggests, is a possible solution for post coronovirus eating.

Contactless dining is a concept that does not involve any physical contact. It has three main components – contactless menu, contactless ordering and contactless payment.

The idea is to scan a QR code that will most likely be placed on the table and ordered from the menu with the recommended dishes appearing on the phone. Once this is done, payment is also to be made through the app. In this way, without physical menus or bills, no physical contact would be in process.

“Zomato ‘contactless dining’ is going to be an important safety net for restaurants as well as diners to reduce human interaction. This is not the only solution, but to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 spreading. One has to be. At public dining places, ”said Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal.

“Contactless dining is a step forward in the right direction for the restaurant industry; It will provide a better and hassle-free dining experience for customers, and will also improve the economics of the restaurant industry – helping to reduce manpower-costs as well as reducing table business time, “Zomato ‘S official blog noted, post launch last week’s feature.

This process will eliminate the need for employees waiting to pay bills or ordering from the menu. However, the waiting staff will serve customers, Jomato said.

Zomato’s blog states, “Waiting staff will still require you to bring your food from the kitchen, but as long as the waiting employee wears a mask, and must follow hygiene standards at the highest level, We should be all right. “

“We hope that the food service industry, particularly the dining out segment, will experience significant and lasting changes in the way it operates. Based on some recent consumer surveys, diners are looking to their top factors when choosing a restaurant. Are ranking security assurance and hygiene. Eating in. “

This week, Zomato announced that it would not charge anything other than paying for restaurants in India, UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Portugal, Philippines, Indonesia and Lebanon.

“It will definitely put significant pressure on our own finances, but I’m sure we’ll survive if the restaurant industry does well,” Goyal tweeted.

Zomato is not the only person who has come up with contactless food facilities.

In a similar move, Paytm, a digital payment firm, also launched its contactless food facility. Like Zomato’s contactless dining feature, Paytm also has to scan QR codes to customers.

Paytm’s blog reads, “Our users will be able to scan this QR to browse menus from their Paytm app and place orders immediately, so that there is no need to touch the menu card and it also interacts with servers May be less. “
